Super secretive: How to choose a gender-neutral baby gift

Many soon-to-be parents choose to keep the gender of their baby a secret. The nurse who carries out the sonograms can often be the only person who knows whether there’s a boy or a girl on the way.

Naturally, the surprise can be a great one for the expectant mum and dad, but it does pose a few problems if you’re looking to find a baby gift before the birth. As Huffington Post contributor and founder of Daddyfiles.com Aaron Gouveia pointed out, most people would naturally choose something blue or pink when they know the gender.

However, those options aren’t there when it’s being kept a secret. So, what do you do? Well, the answer is to seek out a unique baby gift that’s gender neutral.

Neutral, not boring

It’s only natural to choose an item that’s white in colour when aiming for something that’ll suit both boy and girl. While this can certainly be a safe choice, it’s a little uninspiring.

Try to pick something that is more unique. When it comes to clothing, items emblazoned with animals or even cute slogans will stand out and look better when worn by bubs.

For a splash of colour why not try lemon, pastel green, red or a combination of lemon and grey that is currently on trend.

Go educational

Parents will greatly appreciate toys and gifts that can help the little one learn. After all, it’s never too early to start the newborn’s mental development. While an educational gift may not appear to be a particularly profound choice at first, it’s something a little different and falls under the unisex umbrella, too.

Ultimately, there’s no right or wrong answer when it comes to finding the ideal baby gift to suit both boys and girls. Provided you aim for something that is a touch ambiguous, you’ll get it right even if the new parents insist on being super secretive.
